ABOUT SHANGHAI

INTRODUCTION

Shanghai is the ¡°Oriental Paris¡± and "Pearl of China". As the largest and most prosperous city in the nation, Shanghai is the economic, financial and cultural center.

What make Shanghai particularly attractive are the many different styles of architecture and design throughout the city.

The famous Bund was the "British Public Park", reminding of Shanghai's days of decadence. The Japanese and the French Concessions too, are fascinating areas to explore. The French Quarter is a particularly charming district to wander, and there are many former residences to look at and discover something about old Shanghai and the people who lived here.

The area known as the "Chinese City" is also worth visiting. Take a break from the tourists around the Yuyuan and do some serious antique shopping or just wander amidst the old alleys and streets.

Shanghai is a spectacularly modern city. The pace of development here is unbelievable. The newest area of the city, Pudong, has just celebrated its 10th anniversary. Two of the most impressive city structures can be found here, the Jinmao Tower and the Oriental TV Tower.

For any visitor to China, perhaps the most attractive thing about this city is just how fashionable it is. Museums, galleries, restaurants and bars have emerged in the past few years. The heydays of the 1920s and 30s and the newfound wealth in the city are making Shanghai a place with a fabulous and optimistic style and attitude.

IC Industry

China IC industry has become a focus of the global semiconductor industry. Thanks to the huge market demand, low production cost, rich human resource, stable economic development, and favorable government policies, China IC industry has achieved a rapid development in recent years.
Presently, the production bases of notebook PC, digital camera, and other IT products are
shifting to China in a large scale. China has become a global production base of IT products. As
advantages still exist in terms of production such as skilled workers, R&D talents, land, and
capital etc, China will still be the first choice of foreign investment in the new round of shifting ofthe global manufacturing industry.

Shanghai owns a good environment and accumulates rich talents of microelectronics field, which
attracts more and more enterprises to invest. It has become the center of China IC industry.

Climate

Shanghai's weather is moderate (annual average temperature is about 15 degrees centigrade) and the seasons are not as distinct as in the North. ENTERTAINMENT¡¡OVERVIEW
Shanghai is a city for entertainment. There are theatres, cinemas and concert halls, attracting most of the big name Chinese musicians and pulling in western performers as well. Contemporary Shanghai art is impressive too. As the center of radical ideas, it is a place for young and new artists to display their work. So AMUSE Yourself. That's Shanghai.
Amazing Theaters

Shanghai Center ( Nanjingxi Road ) and the old Lyceum Theatre ( Maoming Road).
There are regular acrobatics displays, a MUST for travelers to the city. Even the most doubtful spectator would not fail to amuse themselves by the incredible flexibility and strength of these performers.

Grand Theatre

It is always worth checking out the magnificent Grand Theatre to see what is on!!
It regularly hosts Chinese and Western operas, classical music performances and various plays.

The Best Bars

Currently, the best bars are around Maoming Road and nearby. Park 97 is a stylish bar in the heart of the French Concession and O 'Malleys is a friendly Irish joint right in the heart of things.

Art Galleries

ShangArt in Fuxing Park and EastLink on Fuxing Road.
Aside from these, there are also some good exhibitions in Shanghai Museum in People's Square.

Narcicus Live music bar

Narcicus Live Music Bar on the famous Heng Shan Rd has a lively ambience with energetic performances from "Monopoly" brought in from Philippines.
By 11 o'clock the place is moving with the band and staff keeping you entertained and well tended to.
The build up to these hours of fun can be filled by dining and socializing by candlelight with choices from the global menu reasonably priced.

Address: 8 Heng Shan Rd. Shanghai P.R.C., Shanghai

Cloud Nine

Cloud Nine has possibly (along with Puj's) the best location for a bar in Shanghai . Literally in the clouds- on the 85th floor of the spectacular Jinamo Building- this bar is in a class of its own. The bar is a fair distance from many of the other city hot spots and as such, tends to attract a bit of an older, wealthier crowd who are either hotel residents or, who can afford to make this their local! It is worth splashing out on though, even if only for the views. The city looks pretty spectacular at night from all the way up here!

Address: 87 Jin Mao Tower, 2 Century Boulevard, Shanghai

Caf¨¦ 1931

1931 is a gorgeously quaint little restaurant/bistro in the center of town on Maoming Nan Lu. The decor here is old style Shanghai chic, and there are great gramophones and cigarette postcards decorating the restaurant walls and interior. There is a very personal and charming atmosphere about 1931 and the food and drinks while not spectacular, are fairly tasty and reasonably good value. At night, this place becomes a quiet bar filled with couples. For a relaxing and quiet evening with good food in a charming environment, you could do a lot worse than 1931.

Expect to pay: Approximately RMB 150- 200 per person.
Address: 112 Maoming Nan Road , Shanghai
